Recently two junior student body officers were released from their offices for being irresponsible. The Vice-President and Secretary spots were then left open and needed students to fill them. The response was small but beneficial. Six students entered in to the race, three for each office, and in the final election it came down to four. The four students being Jessica Spencer, Taylor Moulton, Mikki Hayward, and Kesia Timoteo. Spencer and Hayward were running for Vice-President. Moulton and Timoteo were running for Secretary. Timoteo said, “I have always wanted to run for SBO but I never had the guts to do it but I am friends with some of them and their encouragement finally convinced me to do it.”
Ms. Hanks, who is the Junior Officer Adviser, has been in charge of the SBO’s for five years. “I wanted to be involved with a school group that was not so time consuming. I previously was with the cheerleaders but that was too time consuming for me. I like student government.” said Hanks.
Students might be wondering as to if another election was necessary.“Normally, if it was just one officer, we wouldn’t do another election because it wouldn’t be too much of a burden on the other SBOs to take on that officers responsibilities. However, because it was two officers, we had to do another election so that that would not happen.” said Hanks.
When the final tally of votes came in, Spencer was elected Vice-President and Timoteo was elected Secretary. Spencer said, “ I am excited to be an official SBO. I did a lot of stuff with the SBO’s already and it feels nice to finally be recognized and have an official title. I really love this school and what I am doing. I promise I’m not going to let anyone down.” Timoteo said, “I’m excited to get involved and start doing stuff. It will be great.”
Former Junior Secretary, Cecilia Tang, said “I just want to say congratulations and good luck for the rest of the school year. I know they will be amazing at what they do.”
